Metalworking fluids are utilized widely in the metal industry! Particularly during the production of metals in order to provide lubrication and cooling, but also to assist in the removal of debris. It’s vitally important to utilize a metalworking fluid that not only assists in the production process but is also safe for your workers and the environment! MetPro’s Technical Engineers have developed a range of metalworking fluids that are not only safe for the workers but they are also environmentally friendly and biodegradable. MetPro’s Corro Range of Metalworking Fluids and VCI protective liquids are considered green and can be used from manufacturing right through to storage!

95% of corrosion cases are caused by deposits from previous manufacturing processes – residues of washing liquids, metalworking fluids, dust, acid or base activators or passivators during different coating types or deposits of acid gases during the process.

Metalworking Fluids are used for Metal Removal (MRF’s) – milling, drilling & tapping, turning, grinding, etc and Metal Forming (MFF’s) - Drawing, bending, stamping, pressing, casting, etc. Metalworking fluids can be applied using various methods such as spray, continuous jet and hand dispenser.

Metal Removal Fluids are utilized to Cool the chip-tool-workpiece interface/cut zone, Lubricate the chip-tool-workpiece interface/cut zone, Flush chips and swarf from the tool-workpiece interface/cut zone and Prevent flash corrosion.

Our extensive range of Metalworking Fluids and protective liquids suit any in-process requirements, and they are broken down into the following categories:

SyntheCut FS/FS-AL

SyntheCut FS/FS-AL may be diluted in water with agitation, the product will not cream or form inverse emulsions as is the case with soluble oils. It has been specifically designed to protect ferrous and aluminium metals after forming, so there is no need to oil or degrease.

Dilution: 3-10% depending on severity of operation and material being worked.

The removal of metal during working can be either internal e.g. tapping or external e.g. machining, internal is considered more severe. The operations listed with increasing severity sawing, turning, milling, drilling, grinding, gear shaping (hobbing), reaming, external broaching, tapping, and internal broaching. Similarly the material being worked means that high tensile steel is more severe to work than normal mild steel so common sense dictates that you would not recommend 2.5% for say tapping of high tensile steel.

SyntheCool GF

SyntheCool GF will find application wherever there’s a need for highly effective grinding lubricant for metal parts. It functions at high dilutions in water leading to excellent cooling, improved visibility of the work piece, and rapid settling of fines with consequent excellent cost effectiveness.

Dilution: 2 – 5 % depending on roughness of grinding, suggested point to start 3%.

Metalworking fluids are giving hours to days of protection after the process step is done! As they are in touch with the metal surface all over the machined part of the piece, there’s no VCI protection needed, therefore metalworking fluids contain primarily contact inhibitors.

Function of Cleaners (Wash Solutions):

Render substrate surfaces free of surface contaminants such as organic soils (hydrocarbon, vegetable, human oils, greases, polishing and burnishing compounds), inorganic soils (metal salts, oxides and hydroxides), chemical residues, particulate matter (dust).

CorroClean LP

CorroClean LP is best applied using conventional spray equipment but can also be used as a dip. This cleaning liquid may also be useful in vibratory finishing equipment or wash tanks. The product will find application wherever there’s a need for highly effective corrosion protection and cleaning of metal parts or equipment.

For its corrosion prevention properties the LP should always be the first choice when the cleaner is applied.

Dilution: 3 – 5 % in tap water, depending on the surface condition before cleaning.

Higher % for cleaning possible if rinsing is involved (that one should be done with low %).

CorroClean PSW

CorroClean PSW is best used in high pressure systems as it is a non-foaming formula. It has superb cleaning properties and always should be followed with one of CorroTect range products and/or VCI protective packaging.

Dilution: 3 – 5 % in tap water, depending on the surface condition before cleaning.

Higher % for cleaning possible if rinsing is involved (that one should be done with low %).

Do our washing liquids leave any residues on surface?

Yes. All cleaners leave some residues on the surface, partly containing diluted contaminants and chemicals from the previous process.

BUT our liquids don’t leave any visible traces of contaminants. Those are usually caused with powder based dilutions where salts of those powders then stay on the surface and create hydroscopic spots where corrosion usually starts (due to higher humidity and concentration imbalance).

CorroTect 56

CorroTect 56 combines VCI and contact corrosion inhibitors formulated in a water base making it safer and more ecologically friendly than oils and greases, etc. Diluted in water it has a unique property of leaving a thin protective coating that dries. Thanks to the incorporation of MetPro’s own VCI technology, it protects any areas in close proximity that were missed by the coating. They usually don’t need to be removed before painting and other surface treatments.

Dilution : 10 – 12% in tap water, starting with 10 as a trial.

How long does the 56 protect by themselves?

Generally they keep the surface in perfect condition for 1 – 2 months depending on the concentration, type of metal, and its previous treatment.

However, it is recommended to pack them as soon as possible in a proper VCI packaging for best results!

CorroTect 5HC

CorroTect 5HC is different from normal rust prevention coatings in that it is water based or water dispersible and contains no oil, solvents, or other harmful materials but leaves a harder coating.

Dilution: 10 – 30% in tap water, depending on protection required. This has to be evaluated individually as the coating is hard and can provide sufficient protection as standalone barrier.

It should be removed in case of painting with mild alkaline cleaner.

Protective coatings – standalone (not designed for use with VCI packaging)

CorroTect OAM

CorroTect OAM is an Oil additive for VCI protection of internal spaces like gearboxes, axles, oil and fuel tanks etc. Instead of transportation with oil or fuel they can add OAM and decrease the amount of filling from typical 70% to 5 - 10% only. It has a multi-metal protection ability which includes also all yellow metals.

Dilution rate: 5% of neat product as supplied in oil base, as requested by customer, then use this diluted product @ 5% - 10% of volume of article to be protected.

CorroTect WS

This is a coating which creates a thin plastic film on the surface of the metal that it’s protecting. It dries to a thin film coating that is between 3 – 5 microns, therefore creating an excellent barrier for external environment and contains contact and vapor inhibitors to protect the treated surface. The film can be physically removed and can be washed with a water based cleaner or water itself.

Dilution: This depends on thickness of the requested layer.

CorroTect HT

CorroTect HT (Hydro Test) is a contact corrosion inhibitor formulated on a water base making it safer and more ecologically friendly than competitive technologies based on heavy metals, nitrite or phosphates. Diluted in water it will leave a thin protective coating on drying. Further, thanks to the incorporation of MetPro’s own VCI technology it will protect any areas in close proximity that were missed by the coating, affording complete corrosion for long term storage within a closed system. The product will also find use as a protective agent in wet shot or sand blasting.

Dilution: 1-5% depending on the application.
 

WATER

Water plays the most important part in all metalworking fluids, as they’re supplied as concentrates and require dilution before application. The water quality (its pH, quantity of chlorides or better TDS) is affecting the conductivity (and corrosion properties) of any final fluid used in industry, therefore it should be tested before any application to ensure that it is of an acceptable quality.

The parameters that should be checked in terms of acceptable quality are:

  • Total Dissolved Solids (TDS): All solids that dissolve in solution
  • Hardness : Calcium & Magnesium Carbonate
  • Corrosive Ionic Contamination: Chlorides, Sulfates, Nitrates
