VCI is a substance which is introduced into the carrier material such as film, paper, liquid, foam etc. and evaporates from the medium. Due to their evaporation properties, the VCI molecules pass relatively continuously into the gas phase and settle on the metal surface. This prevents the water molecules from reaching the metal atoms and prevents the metal from reacting with the environment, thus preventing corrosion.
